After graduating from SIU Suzanne worked several years, first as a veterinary technician and then as a regional sales manager for Kraft Foods in the Dairy Division, before going back to school at UNCW for her teaching certification. She taught Physical Science and Chemistry at Hoggard High School for 4 years before returning to UNCW under an Oceans and Human Health ,grant from Glaxo-Wellcome in the year 2000. The grant sent her to Bermuda for her first semester in ocean studies courses and upon returning her research focused on the changing biogeochemistry of the organic materials in the Cape Fear River. Since receiving her MS in Marine Science, Suzanne became National Board certified in chemistry and taught all levels of chemistry at Ashley High School where she worked for 15½ years until her retirement from the school system in January of 2018.
Suzanne spends as much time outdoors as possible; she kayaks, walks, bikes and gardens. When she’s not moving, she’s reading. She has two grown daughters and her dog.
