Peter Hourigan – Director of Education

BA Physics – The College of Wooster
MAT Mathematics – Quinnipiac University
Sixth Year Degree Educational Leadership – Southern Connecticut State University

Raised in Massachusetts, Peter graduated from The College of Wooster in 1993. He started his career as a maternity leave replacement in Seekonk High School teaching regular and honors Physics courses. After finishing his MAT in Mathematics at Quinnipiac University in 1996, he worked for ten years as a Math Teacher and six as the Dean of Faculty at The Oxford Academy in Westbrook, CT. The school’s all-boys boarding community participated in a unique one-to-one teacher-to-student instructional format. After completing his sixth year degree at Southern Connecticut State University in Educational Leadership in 2004, he and his young family moved to New York in 2006 where he taught fifth grade History and helped lead the Middle School division as the Assistant Head of School. The school’s employment of the Harkness method encouraged students at all grade levels to actively engage in their educations by critically questioning their experienced-based curriculum. After a short tenure at Cape Fear Academy as the Middle School Head, he returned to the classroom full time in 2015 at Dixon High School in Holly Ridge, NC. There he teaches Honors and Regular levels of Math 2 and Advanced Functions and Modeling, and Precalculus. In 2015 he also made the acquaintance of Drew Sarmiere, and was very happy to have the opportunity to join PEAK as Assistant Director of Education. In January of 2018, Peter assumed the role of Director of Education.
